The aim of this project is to perform genome-wide association studies (GWAS) including data from >500,000 individuals to identify genes that are risk factors for asthma, hay fever and eczema, the three most common allergic diseases. We will then study the function of the genes identified using mouse and cellular studies. Ultimately, some of the risk genes identified might represent novel drug targets for allergic disease. At the end of this project, you will have learnt a wide range of research skills, including those in the fields of statistical genetics, bioinformatics and molecular biology.
