CURRENT RESEARCH

• investigating risks of being diagnosed with melanoma and melanoma mortality among commercial pilots as compared with cabin crew, through a systematic review of all published literature on the topic
• analysing anonymised data from the CASA Medical Records System (MRS) to examine the health of professional pilots in Australia by examining melanoma incidence in all pilots holding a Class 1 medical certificate
• assess melanoma incidence in pilots (mostly recreational) holding a Class 2 medical certificate, and later, cataract prevalence in Australian pilots, as the risk of this condition may also be raised by radiation exposure
• study to describe the experience of the first dedicated outpatient Transplant Skin Clinic in Queensland and record patient satisfaction with the Clinic and their expenses related to skin cancer treatment
• document the epidemiology of skin cancers and related skin tumours in organ transplant patients who are at especially high-risk due to previous skin tumours or a long period on immunosuppressant therapy
• test the protocol for a definitive trial of fish oil supplements in prevention of AK and skin cancer in lung transplant patients
• document the epidemiology of skin cancers and related skin tumours in organ transplant patients who are at especially high-risk due to previous skin tumours or a long period on immunosuppressant therapy
• developing and integrating epidemiological and laboratory evidence collected over a 20-year period in a community-based skin cancer study, the Nambour Skin Cancer Study, this project aims to definitively clarify skin cancer aetiology and therefore prevention measures
• assess the potential roles of epidemiologic factors and quality of life in the progression of Stage Ib and stage II primary cutaneous melanoma
