QIMR Berghofer PhD student selected as a finalist in the 2020 Women in Technology Awards

Congratulations to Vaishnavi Nathan, who has been selected as a finalist in the Women in Technology (WiT) Queensland 2020 awards in the Young Achiever Science Award category. Vaishnavi (Vaish) is a University of Queensland Faculty of Medicine PhD candidate studying melanoma genetics in the Oncogenomics Group at QIMR Berghofer.

The annual WiT Awards recognise outstanding talent and achievement of the many incredible women working in all fields of science and technology.

Attracting a record field of more than 440 nominees this year, Vaish was selected as one of three finalists who have been recognised for their outstanding talent and achievement in the Young Achiever Science Award category.

“I’m extremely honoured to be selected as a finalist for the Women in Technology Awards and I would like to thank my mentors for their support,” Vaish said.

Vaish’s research focuses on cutaneous melanoma and understanding more about melanoma susceptibility in families and the genetics underlying this predisposition.

“Something I have always loved about science is the ability to constantly learn, and the dynamic nature of our work. Being able to contribute to the field of melanoma genetics through our research has been particularly valuable and exciting to me,” Vaish said.

Vaish is looking forward to joining the finalists for the virtual Awards celebration on 9 October, when the winners will be announced for each category.

Best wishes to all the finalists and especially, Vaish!
