Dr Siok Tey, Head of the Translational Cancer Immunotherapy Lab at QIMR Berghofer, received the Chief Executive Award at the 2021 Metro North Health Research Excellence Awards held on 29 July.
Dr Tey is a senior staff specialist in clinical haematology and bone marrow transplantation at The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and a Senior Research Fellow at QIMR Berghofer.
In 2014, Dr Tey opened the first clinical trial in Australia using a T cell engineering method that she helped develop while in the USA to make bone marrow transplantation safer.
Dr Tey and her research team at QIMR Berghofer are focussed on translating their expertise in immunology, T cell therapy and clinical medicine into new therapeutics for the treatment of cancer and immune complications such as graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) arising from bone marrow transplantation.
We congratulate Dr Tey on this much-deserved recognition.
