UQ Dean’s award for two QIMR students

Two students from the Queensland Institute of Medical Research have won the prestigious 2008 Dean’s Award for Outstanding Research Higher Degrees Thesis.

Dr David Chin, from the Drug Discovery Group, and Dr Bennett Datu from Helminth Biology Lab were both listed in the Dean’s Award List for their outstanding post-doctorate theses.

This award, presented by The University of Queensland, formally recognises PhD and Master’s of Philosophy graduates who make a substantial contribution to their field of research.

Dr Datu’s thesis revolved around the genes associated with larval transition of the canine hookworm, Ancylostoma caninum.

Dr Chin’s thesis discussed novel protein markers associated with poor prognosis for head and neck cancers.
