The Moran Cup: searching for a cure

Gold Coast local, Scott Moran, has begun a fight against the cancer that claimed his father.

The second annual charity golf day, The Moran Cup is being held to raise funds for pancreatic cancer research at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR), in memory of Scott’s father Dave Moran who passed away. Scott’s friends, Ian Pedley and Alistair McClure began the event last year, raising over $2,600 for medical research at QIMR.

“Any cancer is a terrible thing, and I hope that the proceeds raised from The Moran Cup can help another family,” said Scott.

Alicia Hall, QIMR’s Senior Fundraising Coordinator said The Moran Cup is one of many fundraising events that show the determination of those affected by cancer.

“Cancer is a disease that affects everyone, with 1 in 2 Australians being diagnosed every year. So, cancer research is vital to improve diagnostics and treatments for those affected.

“QIMR researches 13 types of cancer, including pancreatic cancer. But to continue our life-saving research, QIMR relies on support from the community. We are thankful for the generosity of people like Scott Moran to help to achieve a future of better health through medical research.”

Pancreatic cancer kills 2,000 Australians every year, with an average survival of 6 months after diagnosis.

The Moran Cup is held on Saturday 23 October at 12:00 noon at the Colonial Golf Course, Robina.
