Nova raising money for QIMR

Brisbane-based radio station Nova 106.9FM will be raising funds for Queensland medical research at their Open Day on Saturday 3 July.

To tour the radio studios visitors will be asked to make a gold coin donation, which will be used to support medical research at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR).

Sean Ryan, General Manager of Nova said this is a fantastic cause to support. “Personally, I have supported research at QIMR for a long time because I know that medical research is an investment in the health of our future generations and gives us all hope,” said Sean.

According to Alicia Hall, QIMR’s Senior Fundraising Coordinator, Nova’s generosity is inspiring. “Being a not-for-profit, QIMR relies heavily on the support of the community to make research happen.

“For every dollar we receive from grants, we need another 65 cents to make the research happen. We rely on the public to help us bridge this funding gap. Their generosity helps us take our laboratory discoveries through to clinical practice where they can then change lives.”

The research at QIMR covers such a variety of diseases including HIV, mental health, malaria and dengue fever. However, with 1 in 2 Australians being diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, half of our 53 laboratories are devoted to researching cancer.

Nova’s generous donation will allow us to continue our potentially life-saving research into diagnostics and treatments for a range of cancers including skin, bowel, brain, pancreatic, ovarian and breast cancers.

The Nova Open Day and 5th Birthday Celebrations will be held on 3 July (8am to 8pm) at 130 Commercial Road, Teneriffe as part of the Teneriffe Festival.
