New Council member

Widely respected Brisbane accountant Ian Fraser has been appointed to the Council of the Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR).

Mr Fraser is a chartered accountant with more than 45 years experience, a non-executive company director and business advisor.

Mr Fraser said he had no hesitation in accepting the role.

“I trust I can make a contribution to the Institute, which has an outstanding reputation for professionalism in a wide range of medical research,” Mr Fraser said.

“I have a particular interest in melanoma which has affected my family and friends.

“Hopefully the Institute’s research into the causes and cures for skin cancer will one day prevent such occurrences.”

Mr Fraser retired as an audit and corporate advisory partner of KPMG in 2004, after 27 years as a partner and 40 years in the accounting profession.

He’s been a public company non-executive director since 2004, chairman of a public company since 2008, and chairman of audit committees since 2004.

Mr Fraser also has extensive experience in project leadership and management, due diligence and litigation support. He’s provided business advice across a wide range of industries, including banking and finance, insurance, manufacturing, tourism and leisure, mining, agribusiness and retailing.

Mr Fraser begins his three-year term with QIMR’s council in August 2012. The QIMR council’s Acting Chair is Christopher Coyne.
