Residents of the Gold Coast region are being invited to be part of QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute’s 70th birthday celebrations.
The Institute’s free research roadshow will visit Tweed Heads on Tuesday 12 May.
At the Tweed Heads Civic Centre, the roadshow will run from 10.30am to 12 midday.
Those attending will hear about the impressive work being undertaken by QIMR Berghofer scientists.
QIMR Berghofer is a world-leading translational research institute focused on cancer, infectious diseases, mental health and a range of complex disorders.
The Institute’s aim is to improve health by developing new diagnostics, better treatments and prevention strategies.
Half of all laboratories at QIMR Berghofer are dedicated to improving outcomes for cancer patients.
Discoveries are being tested in patients and models for many forms of the disease, including glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer.
The Institute’s scientists are also making a major contribution to the understanding of the genetics which are driving cancers with a view to discovering new targets for treatment or prevention.
Residents who are planning to attend should RSVP (free toll 1800 993 000) by close of business on Friday 8 May.
