Every 90 seconds an Australian is diagnosed with skin cancer.
Every year, 1,000 Australians die from melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer.
Of all cancer diagnosed in Australia each year, 80% are skin cancers.
Yet in the face of these horrifying statistics, skin cancer remains one of the most preventable of all cancers. Research at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR), Australia’s largest medical research Institute, has already determined significant risk factors for skin cancer and is developing more effective treatments for all types of skin cancer.
Queenslanders are encouraged to help win the race against skin cancer by participating in this year’s Sunday Mail Suncorp Bridge to Brisbane Fun Run on Sunday August 7.
All proceeds will go to QIMR into further developing an immunotherapy treatment against melanoma and towards purchasing equipment for the genetic analysis of skin cancer.
Please help reduce the burden of skin cancer and join the race where everybody wins.
You can still register online at www.bridgetobrisbane.com.au or by visiting the Race Office at 39 Mayne Road, Bowen Hills. Cost is $25 for the 12 km course and $20 for the 4.5 km course.
