The QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute has sent warmest congratulations to Queensland’s new Governor, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC.
The former Chief Justice was also Chair of the Council of QIMR Berghofer before being sworn in as the 26th Governor of Queensland this week.
QIMR Berghofer Director, Professor Frank Gannon, said the Chief Justice had been a committed and dedicated Chair.
“As the Premier outlined at this week’s ceremony, Justice de Jersey has always found time to give back to the community, despite an incredibly busy schedule as Chief Justice,” Professor Gannon said.
“This was especially true of his commitment to, and interest in, the world class research undertaken at our facility at Herston.
“We will miss his input as Chair, but send our warmest congratulations to him in his new role. Our loss is Queensland’s gain.”
Justice de Jersey was the 11th Chair of the Council of QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute.
At the time, he described his appointment as Chair as “an enormous privilege”
“Its reputation for scientific excellence is of global dimension,” Chief Justice de Jersey said in 2013.
“Importantly, QIMR Berghofer research has a long history of producing good practical outcomes in new treatments for a range of disorders, including cancer, infectious diseases and mental illness,” he said.
