QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute is delighted to welcome Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young PSM, Governor of Queensland to the role as patron of the Institute.
QIMR Berghofer CEO and Director, Professor Fabienne Mackay said it was a privilege to continue the long-standing relationship with the Office of the Governor of Queensland.
“Her Excellency has been a genuine and committed supporter of QIMR Berghofer for many years, serving on its Council from 2005 to 2019 and has made a tremendous contribution to the Institute’s mission of better health through impactful medical research,” Professor Mackay said.
“We are looking forward to continuing to work closely with the Governor, as the Institute officially celebrates its 75th anniversary.
“The vice-regal patronage is a tremendous honour for the Institute and one we have shared with Dr Young’s predecessors.”
Her Excellency was sworn-in as the 27th Governor of Queensland on 1 November 2021.
Prior to her tenure as Governor, Dr Young was the Chief Health Officer for Queensland, with responsibility for leading the State’s preventative health and public health agendas, including response to public health emergencies. In January 2020, when the COVID-19 virus outbreak was declared a pandemic, the Governor became the State Health Incident Controller.
“Dr Young’s leadership and service to Queensland during the COVID-19 pandemic has been exemplary. We would like to acknowledge her unwavering and invaluable contribution to the community, medical research and QIMR Berghofer,” said Professor Mackay.
Professor Mackay said the patronage would be for the duration of Her Excellency’s term as Governor.
