Is it possible to ride 200 kilometres on a bike and help conquer cancer without moving an inch? Lisa Venn and her colleagues at Suncorp Bank in the Queen Street Mall have figured out how!
Lisa and her team will be taking turns to jump on a stationary bike and will ride throughout Thursday 21 July to reach 200 kilometres, all while raising funds for the Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer, which will go to cancer research at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR).
“We will be asking Suncorp Bank customers and Queen Street Mall passers-by for their encouragement and donations – big or small – to help us reach our target and support vital cancer research,” Lisa said.
This challenge is just a small taste of what lies ahead for Lisa, who will also be participating in the Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer in August, supporting QIMR.
“I’m thrilled to have the support of my workmates in the lead up to the event, not to mention this extra bit of training, but it’s an even better feeling to know that we are doing our bit in the fight against cancer,” Lisa said.
“Cancer affects everyone, whether directly or through a friend or a family member, and I am no exception.
“I lost my younger sister, Kate, to an aggressive brain tumour six years ago and while I still miss her terribly, I am proud to be able to help raise funds to improve outcomes for people with cancer.
“We encourage everyone to come down to help cheer us along and help conquer cancer.”
If you would like to come and see Lisa and her workmates in action and support their efforts, you can find them at Suncorp Bank, 90-110 Queen Street Mall, Brisbane, from 8.30am to 5pm, Thursday 21 July.
The Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer is a 200 kilometre bike starting in Brisbane on 20-21 August, and raises funds for life-saving cancer research at QIMR. For more information visit www.conquercancer.com.au or call 1300 11 RIDE (7433).
