A celebration of art and science

QIMR has unveiled the stunning art wall water memory – a celebration of art and science.

Internationally-renowned Brisbane artist Judy Watson created the art work for QIMR’s new building, to reflect the Indigenous history of the Herston site, as well as its more recent life as the home of medical research.

water memory combines images of contemporary medical data, historic scientific tools, and local plant life, with archival images from the collection of the doctor and scientist Joseph Bancroft, who pioneered medical research in Queensland in the 1860s and laid the foundations for QIMR.

QIMR patron and Governor of Queensland, Her Excellency Ms Penelope Wensley AC, and Queensland Minister for Health Lawrence Springborg were on hand for today’s official opening, alongside Judy Watson and QIMR Director Professor Frank Gannon.
