Gifts in will are
Future of Health
What would you give now for breakthrough
research in the future?
What would you give for a healthier future?
A gift in your will allows us to continue to step into the unknown and make ground-breaking discoveries
every day that will have a direct impact on the lives of future generations. Join us! It is an exciting time to
be involved with QIMR Berghofer. There is still so much more work to be done.
QIMR Berghofer is one of the largest and most successful medical research institutes in Australia and has established an international reputation for excellence. Operating more than 60 state-of-the-art laboratories and employing hundreds of talented and highly educated scientists, QIMR Berghofer delivers medical research of the greatest relevance and significance for human health.
QIMR Berghofer is embarking on the next wave of innovative research, medicine and treatment. We have a vision that our sons and daughters will have access to more personalised and effective medical treatments into the future. We invite you to join our journey.
Our scientists imagine a future where cancer is cured, asthma is prevented, Alzheimer’s is treated and malaria is eradicated. At QIMR Berghofer, we conduct research on all of these diseases and disorders, and many more.
While the Institute is brimming with promising research, one particularly ground-breaking area is the treatment of cancer. Every one of us will be touched by cancer, with Cancer Council Australia stating that 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85. Traditional cancer treatment options are invasive and generally take the form of three primary methods – surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Now, immunotherapy is emerging as a fourth method.
Immunotherapy is the great new hope for cancer treatment. Immunotherapy involves training a person’s own immune cells to fight cancer cells in the body. QIMR Berghofer is a world leader in this treatment, currently administering four world-first clinical trials in immunotherapy. This work will be ongoing for the foreseeable future, with the help of your generous investment.
QIMR Berghofer has consistently pushed the boundaries of scientific knowledge and led the way in new fields of research. This includes brain imaging technology, which is now a major attribute of our mental health research. Our researchers have started imaging the brains of participants in the Prospective Imaging Study of Ageing (PISA). This is a major, five-year study investigating how we can detect Alzheimer’s disease before symptoms develop so that treatment can start before the brain tissue is substantially damaged. With our ageing population, this study will be crucial in understanding, diagnosing and treating Alzheimer’s disease into the future.
While the overall picture is bright, advances are only possible with financial support from generous members of the community, like you. Many people decide to provide for their family members but also include a contribution to medical research through a gift in will.
