The QIMR Berghofer Business Development team specialises in commercialisation and business development, IP protection and management, contracts management, and alliance management.
We work across the Institute’s core research areas to identify opportunities for collaboration, and seek to integrate new partners or build on key relationships with the clear focus of translating our researchers’ innovations from inception to bedside. We have a strong track record of partnering with leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies to develop early-stage technologies. In addition to licensing and partnering outcomes, we facilitate contract and collaborative research and consulting projects for industry clients.
OUR PROCESS
With more than 1000 scientists, students and support staff housed across three purpose-built buildings in the Herston health precinct, QIMR Berghofer is one of Australia’s largest and most successful independent medical research institutes. We have a strong track record of partnering with leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies to further develop early-stage technologies, facilitating licensing and partnering outcomes. We have the capability to translate fundamental research from the discovery phase through development, scale-up and manufacture in our Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) accredited laboratory, Q-Gen Cell Therapeutics.
For the 2019/2020 financial year, QIMR Berghofer entered into nearly 400 new agreements with external parties, and received nearly $30 million in NHMRC and MRFF grant funding. These, as well as a significant array of other grant awards, contribute toward successful partnership outcomes.
