This will be a one-and-a-half day symposium style program featuring early- and mid-career level and postgraduate student presentations, plenary lectures, the Jonathan Sprent Oration, and evening poster session and dinner.

The event is intended as a retreat, where immunology researchers (expert and next generation) can interact and get to know each other.

There are no registration options that do not include accommodation. All attendees stay at the venue overnight, enjoy the full program of presentations and new collaborators in their field.

There are no registration options that do not include accommodation. All attendees stay at the venue overnight, enjoy the full program of presentations and new collaborators in their field.

Registration includes:

Due to limited capacity of the venue, this year’s BIG Retreat will allow a maximum of 140 attendees. Please make sure you register early and provide the name(s) of other attendees if you’re choosing a twin share or a quad share accommodation option.

This pricing is based on a face-to-face format for this retreat. Should delegates be unable to gather due to COVID-19, the meeting will change to a 100% virtual event and delegates will receive a partial refund.

 

Cancellations

Cancellations received after 1 July 2022 and before 4 August 2022 will receive a partial refund (minus costs related to cancellation of booked accommodation).

For any reason you need to cancel your registration, please notify the Secretariat via email at your earliest convenience.

We will be unable to provide any refund for cancellations received after 4 August 2022.

We encourage all registrants to submit an abstract for poster presentation, and share your work at the meeting. 

IMPORTANT!

Abstracts can be submitted during your online registration process.

If your abstract is not ready to be submitted when you register for the event, please provide a provisional title and authors in the registration form and submit your abstract via events@qimrberghofer.edu.au by the submission deadline.

The deadline for abstract submission is Thursday 30 June 2022.

*Postgraduate students can request to have their abstract considered for oral presentation in the Postgraduate session on Day 1. The best presentation, as determined by the judging panel, will received the Peter Doherty Medal. During registration, students will have the option to check as box if they wish their abstract to be considered for oral presentation. If their abstracts is not chosen, they will still be invited to present a poster.

*Note: Only ASI member students will have their abstracts considered for oral presentation in the Postgraduate session. This includes those students who join ASI immediately prior to registering/submitting abstracts.

Accommodation

We have reserved One and Two Bedroom apartment for our stay at Q1 Resort & Spa.

Delegates registering for Twin Share accommodation will share a room (2 x single bed) with their indicated share partner. Your room will be in a Two bedroom apartment which you will have two other Twin Share registered delegates in the second bedroom (2 x single bed). These apartment have two bathrooms.

If you have a preference of which delegates with whom you share an apartment, please contact the Secretariat. If not, Twin Share pairs will be randomly allocated to available apartment. If you do not indicate a share partner’s name during the registration, one delegate will be found for you.

Delegates registering for Single accommodation will be booked a One Bedroom apartment (1x queen bed).

If you are registering for Single accommodation but are happy to share a Two Bedroom apartment with other registered delegates, please contact the Secretariat.

If you wish to bring family members or partners (who will not be registering as meeting delegates), please contact the Secretariat prior to registration for assistance to organise appropriate accommodation and to cover extra costs (i.e. extra breakfast or dinner tickets).

The resort does not have childminding services on site, but have recommended booking with Coastal Babysitters if you need childcare during the meeting.

Parking

One and Two Bedroom accommodation include only one complementary parking space. We recommend booking a seat on the bus to avoid conflicts over this limited parking especially for delegates who have registered for Twin Share accommodation.

Covid-19 Safety Information

This meeting is hosted by SkyPoint Events in the conferencing space at Q1 Resort, Gold Coast following the SkyPoint COVID safe plan.

The organisers intend for this retreat to be run in the usual face-to-face format. However, should delegates be unable to gather due to COVID-19, the meeting will change to a 100% virtual event and delegates will receive a partial refund.

Travel

Please check with your University, Institute or School if there are any restrictions with regards to conference attendance and/or overnight travel and your specific application requirements before you register. We are unable to provide a refund if your travel application is refused.

Bus Transfers

A bus will collect registered delegates from QIMR Berghofer and PA Hospital on Thursday 25 August and transfer delegates to Q1 Resort & Spa. Following the conclusion of the meeting a bus will return delegates to Brisbane dropping off at PA Hospital and QIMR Berghofer. Return bus transfer is $40 and should be purchased during registration.

The Brisbane Immunology Group (BIG) encourages, promotes and supports the discipline of immunology in Queensland. It is a broad organisation, embracing all research into basic, clinical, cellular and molecular immunology in humans and animals.

BIG aims to provide opportunities for young scientists to develop their skills in immunological fields and presenting their research findings. BIG also provides an opportunity for various groups within Queensland to collaborate with other instate organisations, through exchange programs and the BIG Retreat.

BIG was established in 1999 as part of the Queensland branch of the Australasian Society for Immunology (now known as ASI – Australian and New Zealand Society for Immunology Inc) and has been supported by ASI and QIMR Berghofer for many years.

Membership to BIG is free and all institutions in Queensland are eligible to join. See our current member list below. All of these member institutions have played an important role in advancing the field of immunology, and have a focus on translational immunology research.
